First Friday

First Friday is a casual evening of great instruction, fantastic music, and wonderful people.

On the First Friday of every month, we host a lesson & dancing at the studio. We start with a beginner-friendly swing lesson, and then open up the floor to practice your social dancing. You’ll have the opportunity to dance with folks of all abilities, as partners rotate throughout the night. And when you don’t feel like dancing, just relax and take in the scene.

This is an 18+ evening.

Drop-In. Advanced reservations are not required.

Beginning Lesson @ 8PM. No partner or experience required. Arrive a little before 8pm if it’s your first class.

The evening, inclusive of the lesson, is $10 (cash only at the door) and very casual. Just bring or wear a pair of clean, dry shoes and a smile.

Attire is casual. Dancing is a physical activity, so we do recommend you dress smartly but appropriately. Please visit our Attire FAQ for suggestions.

Social dancing starts about 9pm.

The music is swingin’ jazz, a great mix to practice your East Coast, Lindy, Charleston, & Balboa.

First time coming to the studio? We’re across the street and just south of the Blue Line Western Stop. There is free street parking along Western, and both free and metered parking on Armitage, Milwaukee and the side streets. We do not yet have our grand exterior sign. We’re in the middle of the block and we have brochures right outside our door.

Water is provided via our brand new water bottle filling station and drinking fountains. If you intend to bring additional beverages, do bring your own cups as we do not have them in the studio

My first visit to BCS was for First Fridays dance party. The evening starts with a lesson for beginners. I’ve taken an array of lessons in the past and their intro lesson will get you out on the floor with confidence. You’ll learn the basic step and a couple moves to twirl your way around the floor. After the 45-minute lesson, they have DJs to play some standards and likely some tunes you’ve never heard with an infectious beat.
